Another very tough week of preparation for the AHS Indians

McLaughlin had his team ready for the invasion of Pocahontas
County for the first engagement with Greenbank's Golden Eagles.
The Advertiser reported that the "Eagles were no match for
Alderson's up and coming eleven that is looking 100% better each
week-end. The local eleven invaded Greenbank, primed for a win and
before the contest was very old it was evident that the Indians
were sure winners." "They opened up the second period with as fine
a running attack as has ever been seen on the Greenbank field. Two
touchdowns with one extra point gave them a 13-0 lead at the
intermission.
"The entire team looked good in the second quarter that spelled
defeat for the Eagles. Hedrick and Honaker did the blocking, while
Pugh and Copeland did the major part of the ball toting. Bob
Copeland played his best game of the season and besides a fifty
yard run for a touchdown on an off tackle play; he continually
threatened to score on numerous occasions when he ripped off large
gains. Pete Pugh, Alderson's speed demon, accounted for one
touchdown on a twenty yard sprint around left end and made several
runs of 10 and 20 yards to keep the Eagles on the defensive. Two
in the second quarter, one in the third and one touchdown early in
the fourth stanza was enough for the regulars, and Coach
McLaughlin sent his entire second eleven into the fray and despite
a gallant stand by the scrubs the Eagles scored their lone marker,
try for extra point was blocked. Housby Hill in the line for the
scrubs, Raymond McClung, Bill Jones and Fawcett, stellar first
string lineman, were outstanding in the forward wall for Alderson.
Alderson made 14 first downs to three for Greenbank, used
laterals, the forward pass, and a well timed running attack with
beautiful interference to win a handsome victory."
While the high
school boys were making headlines on the "field" the children of
the lower school were lining up for the first month honor roll.
