Amtrak   has   announced   that   it   will   no   longer   haul   private   cars.   This   will   have   a   terrible   effect   on   excursion trains   and   events   like   Hinton   RR   days.   We   won't   see   more   of   these   on   the   rails   through   town.   Seen   in   the     photos below, one of the last to go through Alderson. Saturday   an   Eastbound   train   clipped   a   car   at   the   crossing   for   the   Memorial   Bridge.   No   injuries,   but   it   closed the   bridge   crossing   for   several   hours.   These   pictures   show   a   Westbound   train   very   slowly   passing   the other train which was stopped for inspection. The   good   news   is,   if   you   call   ahead,   you   can   still   stop   in Alderson,   and   depart   also.   (Click   on   photos   for   larger view)
