recommended
contracting
with

OLD BUSINESS:
President
Judy
Lohmeyer
recognized
the
dedicated
service
of
former
President,
Jim
Russell
and
presented him with a certificate.
It
was
noted
that
Sylvia
Keaton
has
retired
from
her
janitorial
position
at
the
Train
Depot
and
a
thank
you
note was passed around for members to see. Robert McCurdy has been hired for that position now.
March
15th,
is
the
Friday
date
for
the
Corned
Beef
and
Cabbage
Dinner.
It
will
be
at
the
Community
Center from 5:30 – 7:30 pm and many helpers will be needed there beginning at 1:00 pm on that Friday.
Mystik
Miller
gave
a
brief
report
on
preparations
for
the
upcoming
Strawberry
Festival
to
be
held
on
Saturday,
May
25th.
She’s
excited
to
have
enlisted
three
musical
groups:
Black
Mtn.
Bluegrass
Boys,
The
Goodson
Boys
and
Emmalea
Deal.
Several
vendors
are
already
planning
to
come
as
well
as,
Fawn
Valentine coordinating an art project display with the schools.
Judy
Lewallen
reported
that
we
didn’t
need
to
purchase
new
hanging
flower
baskets
or
liners
this
year,
only flowers, and she will pick them up in May. That’s 16 baskets for the usual hanging basket display.
Doris
Kasley
noted
that
they
are
still
looking
at
the
August
18
date
for
the
Bricktop
Concert,
but
it
has
not
yet been finalized.
NEW BUSINESS:
Margaret
Hambrick
reported
on
the
business
meeting
of
the
AMS
board
members
with
Lynda
Howe,
Jim
and
Barbara
Bowling
and
some
members
of
the
Alderson
Food
Hub.
With
the
approval
of
AMS
membership
and
town
council
the
Visitor’s
Center
will
be
rented
to
the
“Bridgewalk
Vendors”
and
“Thimble
and
Plow”
Businesses.
The
Food
Hub
will
be
using
the
storage
building
and
perhaps
a
closet
rent
free
for
the
next
year,
while
the
other
two
businesses
will
pay
$200.
per
month
rent;
assume
utilities
bills
and
continue
to
serve
as
a
Visitor’s
Center
in
addition
to
the
other
community
services
previously
provided
for
at
the
Visitor’s
Center.
They’ll
also
mulch,
plant
and
maintain
the
grounds
in
an
attractive
manner.
Jim
Russell
will
prepare
a
contract
provided
the
Town
Council
also
agrees.
Doris
Kasley
made
the
motion
to
approve
this
arrangement
for
the
AMS
membership
portion,
Barbara
Sanders
seconded
it
and
the
membership voted “Yes!”
Bill
Ward
shared
a
proposed
logo
for
AMS
which
was
attractive,
but
several
members
felt
we
needed
some
green
color
due
to
the
Greenbrier
River
being
such
an
integral
part
of
our
community.
Bill
will
revise
the
logo.
He
is
working
on
developing
a
world
wide
web
page
for
aldersonmainstreet.org
and
noted
there
will be some minimal costs such as a host company fee.
Judy
Lewallen
plans
to
request
$500.
for
mulch
and
perennials
to
fix
up
three
unsightly
flower
beds
in
our
town. She will do the work of planting and maintaining them.
Peggy
Crowder,
Greenbrier
Valley
Economic
Development
Corporation,
and
others
suggested
we
may
feature
Alderson
businesses
on
our
web
page
once
we
get
this
up
and
running.
It
was
suggested
we
begin
with
those
businesses
which
are
members
of
AMS
first,
then
reach
out
to
others.
Others
suggested
also
featuring
Farmer’s
Market
Vendors
on
the
web
page.
It
was
again
suggested
AMS
may
provide
simple decals or certificates for AMS membership that could be displayed in the local businesses.
Brief
discussion
for
planning
a
special
musical
concert
in
June
was
entertained.
Mystik
Miller
will
pursue
this further and get back to us.
The next regular meeting will be, Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 7:00 pm.
David Sanders made a motion to adjourn.
Respectfully submitted,
Sue Fleshman
