Disc Golf Comes To Alderson
Through
the
efforts
of
Bruce
Battaile,
Drew
Young,
Thomas
Godby,
and
Chris
Roth;
the
support
of
the
Town
of
Alderson
and
Alderson
Main
Street;
and
contributions
from
generous
donors,
the
Alderson
Municipal Park will soon have additional baskets on its Disc Golf Course.
Disc
golf
may
be
a
new
sport
to
many
but
it
has
been
played
for
many
years
in
Europe
and
other
countries
and
almost
as
many
in
our
country.
There
are
three
public
18
hole
(basket)
courses
already
in
Greenbrier
County.
But,
for
those
who
may
not
want
to
drive
so
far
on
a
regular
basis,
there
are
already
two holes at the Alderson Municipal Park.
If
this
sounds
a
lot
like
golf,
it
is.
A
full
course
consists
of
18
“holes”.
Holes
are
measured
in
feet,
and
each
hole
is
assigned
a
“Par”
or
number
of
throws
it
should
take
to
get
from
the
“Tee”
to
the
basket.
It
is
scored
like
golf.
Players
of
all
ages
enjoy
this
outdoor
sport
and
the
exercise
is
much
more
like
fun
than
work!
The
disc
looks
a
lot
like
a
Frisbee
and
can
be
thrown
like
one
but
it
is
smaller
and
there
are
different
discs
for
different
throws—much
like
drivers,
irons
and
putters.
It
is
a
very
safe
sport
with
skill
levels
from
Recreational to Professional.
The Riverview Motel and Cafe; T. Barkley, Accountant; Rexroad Supply; and Big Wheel Family Restaurant
in
Alderson
have
already
stepped
up
to
sponsor
a
basket.
City
National
Bank
has
indicated
they
will
provide
annual
support.
Three
more
baskets
are
needed
to
make
a
9
hole
course.
Any
person
or
business which would like to donate should contact Bruce Battaile at 304-445-1008 for more information.
