Alderson Main Street Meeting Minutes June 20, 2019
Judy   Lohmeyer,   President   of   AMS,   opened   the   meeting   of   Alderson   Main   Street   with   the   Pledge   of Allegiance. The agenda was presented by the President.   The   meeting   minutes   of   May   16,   2019   were   read   by   the   substitute   secretary,   Doris   Kasley,   and   approved as read.   The   treasurer,   Margaret   Hambrick,   reviewed   the   budget   and   discussed   each   account   in   detail.   The   current amount   in   the   total   account   is   $23,247.22.   A   motion   to   accept   the   report   from   the   treasurer   was   made   by Jim Bowling with a second by William Ward.  Motion approved. The    treasurer    also    reported    draperies    for    the    Depot    are    ready    to    be    measured    and    Jim    Bowling volunteered   to   install   the   drapes   in   the   baggage   room.   Also,   there   is   a   need   to   cut   the   hemlocks   around the   Visitors   Center   because   the   needles   dropped   from   these   hemlocks   are   causing   major   problems   with the roof at the Visitors Center. Margaret will get estimates for cutting these trees. Finance   Committee   Report:      The   Finance   Committee   requested   AMS   support   the   new   roof   project   at   the Alderson   Community   Center.   The   details   and   financing   of   this   proposed   project   were   presented   and discussed.      Following   the   recommendation   report   from   the   AMS   Finance   Committee,   Margaret   Hambrick moved   and   Bill   Ward   seconded   the   motion   to   use   up   to   $18,000      from   the AMS   unendowed   funds   with   the understanding   these   funds   would   be   the   last   used   for   the   roof   replacement   at   the   Community   Center.      All grant funds and the $12,000 pledged by the ACC Board would be used first. Motion approved. OLD BUSINESS: Members   of   the   Strawberry   Festival   committee   held   a   meeting   to   recap   the   event   and   discuss   proposed changes   for   the   next   year.      There   will   be   a   planning   meeting   for   the   2020   festival   set   for   an   undermined date in October. NEW BUSINESS: The   ice   cream   social   will   be   held   at   the   Depot   on   Saturday,   July   6th.      Jim   Bowling   volunteered   to   obtain   a freezer to hold and keep the ice cream cold. Thanks   to   William   Ward   there   is   a   new   webpage    for AMS.   If   you   have   comments   or   questions,   please   give Bill this information. Cliff   Lunceford   is   the   owner   of   the   new   hardware   store   in   town.   There   will   be   a   ribbon   cutting   for   this business,   as   well   as   a   ribbon   cutting   for   the   Riverview   Café   on   July   1st.      Exact   times   will   be   posted   on Facebook. The   Community   Picnic   will   be   held   on   September   8th   at   the   Town   Park.      The   main   food   will   be   barbequed chicken.  All other food is pot luck or donated. The   Bricktop   Concert   will   be   held   on   Sunday,   August   18th.      AMS   will   sell   hotdogs   and   cold   soft   drinks   at the concert. Margaret   Hambrick   announced   AMS   received   a   grant   to   provide   a   sign   for   the   lion   from   the   Pomeroy Foundation.      When   the   sign   is   ready   a   dedication   will   be   scheduled.      Another   sign   put   in   Alumni   Park   to recognize   Bricktop   has   been   requested.      The   depot   has   been   gifted   a   Pete   Ballard   doll   resembling Bricktop. There   was   mention   of   a   curved   bronze   plaque   from   the   First   National   Bank,   but   more   details   are   needed on this. Margaret Hambrick moved to adjourn the meeting.
