Retrogression

 Barry Worrell - April 1, 2021

When the cell phone was invented, I was all in on this marvelous technological device. Like everyone else in the world, I bought one. As they progressed I went through a few models, mostly with their case, felt like a big wad of paper rolled up in your pocket, Later, Motorola introduced their "Razr", a very thin style of phone. I still have that phone. You might say it's become a piece of antiquated technical art.

Then came the "smart" phone. A phone that also operated as a small computer. Now we've got something. As they progressed, it was no longer a phone with computer capabilities, but a small advanced computer that  just happens to also be a phone. The concept of having a smart phone has morphed into something that's become life to some, and the transportation of that whole life, which if you loose your cell phone, has put most of that life in jeopardy.

Last year, 2020, I got a notice from my carrier, my phone would no longer be supported and I wouldn't be able to use it after the first of the year. This would mean an upgrade. Anyway, I only used the phone and camera section of my smart phone and  had become disenchanted with the concept, and shelved my smart phone, going without for the past 3 months. I finally replaced my cell phone with a flip phone. Now to answer a call, I simply flip the lid and say hello. To say goodbye, I simply close the lid. That's efficiency.

Obviously, not everyone feels the same as I do. Billions enjoy the whole experience of  smart phones, and I'm happy for them. I'm also happy they still make flip phones, for geezers such as I.

Viva La Flip Phone!
