The Alderson Green Grocer opened
April 1, 2015, on WV Rt. 63 & 12 in Alderson W. Va. After months of
planning , building, & fundraising, a non-profit group opened the
new grocery store. The Gadds' IGA grocery store, having been the
only grocery in Alderson for many years, closed in November of 2014,
leaving Alderson's population, to have to go to Lewisburg, Hinton or
Beckley for their groceries.
In a joint effort, some of the people of Alderson got together & put
into action, plans to open The Green Grocer in order to offer
options to our local people. The store is housed in the former
Valley Ford Auto Sales building. aka ; Miller Ford Garage. The
building more recently housed The Wolf Creek Galleries, which has
now moved to the Alderson Renaissance building .
The food hub offers fresh meats,
vegetables, breads, dry beans, cheeses, soups, etc. Ann Knott is
Manager of The Alderson Green Grocer and Dawn & Billy Painter own
and operate Burnout Pit BBQ, LLC, and they run the new Sunnyside
Café & Deli, located in the Alderson Green Grocer. They serve, fresh
pit BBQ, Baked Breads, macaroni salad, cheesy potatoes, etc. You can
buy just a sandwich or a whole meal. There are tables along the
store front to sit and eat, or they offer take-out.
The store also offers a reading nook in the back, where you can sit
and read. There are books to read on premise and some of the books
may be "checked out".
