Williams, Fred Andrew, age 81, passed away on Monday, December 31,
2007. He was born in Alderson, West Virginia. Fred was preceded in
death by his mother, Aletha Williams Kincaid; granddaughter, Megan
Parker; brothers, James and "Topsy"; and sister, Gladys. He is
survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth B. Williams; son,
Dr. Fred A. Williams jr. and his wife, Carol, of Harpers Ferry, WV;
daughter, Susan W. Parker and her husband, Vernon, and grandchildren,
Allison and Christopher Parker of Richmond. He was a very devoted
family man enjoying many camping outings and gatherings with his
immediate and extended family and friends. Fred was a World War II
veteran, having served proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was
also a member of American Legion Post No. 354 in Bon Air. A graduate
of Richmond Professional Institute (VCU), he retired after over 40
years with the city of Richmond. He held various positions while
working his way to Bureau Chief of Recreation and eventually acting
Director of Recreation and Parks. During his tenure, Fred hired
numerous young college students, mentoring and influencing their
careers. He remained friends with many throughout the years, enjoying
fishing and golf after his retirement. His remains rest at the
Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the
family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and
where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will
follow at Hollywood Cemetery.
