Hello all,
I
cannot
begin
to
tell
you
how
excited
we
are
about
this
up-coming
program
about
Katherine
Johnson on March 24! The community is excited as well!
We
will
be
doing
a
dress
rehearsal
on
Tuesday,
March
20
at
2:00
p.m.
at
the
Lewis
Theater
and
welcome
all
media
to
come
at
that
time.
There
are
copyright
restrictions
on
the
material
but we will still be able to get you some interviews with the writer and cast.
We
are
also
excited
about
our
presenting
the
program
in
all
high
schools
in
Greenbrier,
Monroe,
and
Pocahontas
Counties
that
week
thanks
to
generous
financial
support
from
the
Greenbrier
Valley
Community
Foundation.
The
Greenbrier
Historical
Society
feels
strongly
that
the
students
will
benefit
immensely
as
teachers
use
this
performance
as
a
starting
point
for
conversations
about
race,
poverty,
discrimination,
perseverance,
education,
achievement,
and
triumph.
Katherine
Johnson
was
unique
but
each
student
has
some
of
her
qualities
and,
given
the
support
of
parents
and
teachers,
all
can
achieve
greatness.
We
are
encouraging
the
teachers
to
prepare
the
students
for
this
experience
through
lesson
plans,
discussions,
and perhaps the viewing of the movie “Hidden Figures”.
If
we,
at
GHS,
can
be
of
additional
help
or
provide
additional
information,
please
let
us
know.
We appreciate your helping with this super project! (Click on photo for larger view)
