I would like to
know if here is anyone still living who knows anything about the
Alderson Golf Course. The locations of some of the Tee boxes and a
few of the greens we still identifiable when I was a teen-ager and
still discernible slightly on the landscape until the property
started having houses, (one of which we live in) Coach Abe McLaughlin
was one of the groundskeepers and I suspect was in charge of the
facility. Like so many things, I waited till there is nobody left
and then start asking questions. I understand it was abandoned and
turned into Victory Gardens about the start of WW2, and never came
back into use. I would think someone has some pictures of portions
of the course, maybe as the background of a photo. I would like to
be able to write some sort of a history of the course, it's
organizers etc, for The Aldersonian. Somewhere, someone may have a
drawing of the entire course, that would be great to see.
Probably most of the Alderson kids, at some time or another or
otherwise are slightly familiar with its location up behind and
northwest of the Baptist Church, on the Christine Gwinn property,
probably sledded on the course in the winter. |
