Here in Solitary Confinement thinking of the Young folks that are not
around anymore. Some of them are in France or elsewhere in Europe or in
the Orient. I’m thinking of the “Young American Heroes), alive and dead,
Tom Brokaw got it right in his book.
There aren’t any parades in Alderson this year: not many, if any
cook-outs in back yards either. Least I was not invited to any! No
church either, that always helps.
Somehow it seemed to be a day for tears, they could have been for my own
loss, or for all the other folks, whose eyelids just barely are able to
keep the tears back. Seems we are missing a lot of our friends this
year!
I don’t have many friends these days, I think of all my E-mail friends,
(the Diggers), they sure did scat out of this life, wonder if they know
how much I miss them! I learned a lot, heard a lot of tales, some true),
some long-past forgotten memories of days and years.
Some insignificant truths I could just have easily not known. Do you
know why (Cy) Norton got his nickname—I’ll tell you, There was a SIGN
hanging on the outside of the Rexall Drug Store in the McClung Building.
Norton was the only person ever able to jump up and touch it. SIGN=Cy!
That’s the kind of not especially important stuff we remember in
Alderson. May not be important to any of us now but who knows about the
retelling 25 years from now?
Any how, I feel better talking to friends, Hope we can do it next year,
I’ll try to keep the tears back, I really don’t care if I can’t, we have
a lot to weep about. Prayers can help!
