Howard
Lee Lively, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 at Catawba
Regional Hospice in Newton, N.C.
Howard
was born July 6, 1924 in Keeney Knob, W.Va., to the late
Jettie R. Lively and Macy Mae Stover and graduated from
Alderson High School in 1942. He was a Methodist most of his
life and later became a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church
in Maiden, N.C. Howard served in the United States Army
during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze
Star and the Oak Leaf Cluster after being wounded in action
in Heilbronn, Germany. He was a 1950 graduate of West
Virginia University with a degree in chemical engineering.

Using this degree, he worked as an
industrial engineer, eventually retiring from Burlington Industries
in 1987as senior project manager. Howard enjoyed travel and history
and, after retirement, enjoyed landscaping projects at their home in
Greensboro. He had a strong work ethic and was loyal and dedicated
in all he did.
In addition to his father, Jettie R. Lively, and mother, Macy Mae
Stover, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jane B.
Lively.
Survivors include his son, H.L. Lively II of Chapel Hill, N.C.;
daughter, Linda Scott and husband, David Gaston, of Newton, N.C.;
grandchildren, Kevin Scott of Newton, N.C., Kelly Scott Mozgala and
husband, Jeff, of Hickory, N.C., and Joshua Lively Glasson of
Durham, N.C.; and sister, Virginia Ferrell of Seymour, Idaho. He
took great delight in his great-granddaughters, Sophia Jane Mozgala
and Miabella Mozgala.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the
Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory, N.C. Pastor Nathan Yoder
will officiate.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5 to 6:45
p.m.
A visitation will also be held at McCraw Funeral Home, Lewisburg,
W.Va., at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7.
