ALDERSON — Philip Edward "Phil"
Halstead of Alderson, left this earth to be with the Lord on
Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at
Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, W.Va., following a short
illness.
Phil was 70 years old being born on January 18, 1945, at Cranberry,
W.Va., the son of the late William E. "Bill" and Elizabeth Josephine
"Jo" Moodespaugh Halstead of Lowell, W.Va.
Phil was the owner and operator of Halstead General Contracting of
Alderson. He was a heavy equipment operator and general contractor
and found joy in "turning the earth". In addition, Phil and his
wife, Trudy, were also the co-owners and operators of Lightner's
Tavern in Alderson. In his early years he worked on the farm and
delivered milk for Greener Acres Dairy, a family business, in
Lowell.
Phil loved to spend time with his loving family and friends and was
especially proud of his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, raising
cattle and attending the State Fair of West Virginia as his yearly
vacation.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 10 years, Trudy D. Crizer
Lightner Halstead of Alderson; a son, Lewis Halstead of Alderson;
two daughters, Crystal Halstead Crouch of Charleston, W.Va., and
Hilarie Halstead Boone and her husband, Joe, of Charleston, S.C.;
three step children, Teresa Bostic and her husband, Jeff, of
Alderson, Kaye Hunter Bland and her husband, Gary, of Fairlea, and
Georgeanne Godby of Alderson; a sister, Barbara Halstead Bowling and
her husband, Jim, of Lowell/Pence Springs; seven grandchildren, Emma
Crouch of Charleston, W.Va., Madison Boone of Charleston, S.C.,
John, Jack and Gray Bostic of Alderson, Thomas Godby of Alderson,
and Katie Hunter of Fairlea; two great-grandchildren, Haven Bostic
of Alderson, and Audrey Hunter of Fairlea; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the
Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with the Rev. Sam Groves
officiating. Burial will follow at the Keller Presbyterian Church
Cemetery, Lowell.
Friends may call Friday, April 17, 2015 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the
Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, W.Va.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gill Merritt, Mitch Bowling, Brian
Bowling, Joe Boone, Clint Eskins, Jason Merritt, David Burns, and
Ricky Gunter.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ranny Rhodes, Ross
Copenhaver, Jim Eskins, David Merritt, Jim Bowling, Jeff Bostic and
Gary Bland. |
