Elmer R. Bryant - Obituary

August 16, 1949 - August 14, 2019

Elmer R. Bryant, 69 of Flat Mountain, Alderson WV passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at The Springs in Hot Springs VA. Born on August 16, 1949 in Alderson WV. He was the son of the late Plumber R. Bryant and Mary E. Harnest.

He was of Methodist Faith. He was a graduating member of the first graduating class in 1969 at Greenbrier East High School in Fairlea, WV.

Shortly afterwards he joined the Army and was sent to Fort Bliss in Texas. He was then stationed in Korea for a 13-month tour. He also spent 19 years in the National Guard where he served as a cook. Elmer was self-employed most of his life and worked as a Painter/Carpenter. He enjoyed hunting arrow heads and has hunted many fields, streams and along the Greenbrier River over the years.

He could spot one a mile ahead and has a vast collection. He always loved listening to hard rock music. Later in life he enjoyed collecting antiques, especially WV license plates and railroad lanterns, numerous metal cans and lunch boxes. He was a kind and loving person and loved to help his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy K. Bryant, three sons, Ernest J. Bryant (Brenda) of Ronceverte, Elmer R. Bryant of Fairlea WV, Chris D. Bryant of Alderson WV. one daughter, Terry A. Bryant of Lewisburg WV. One brother, Ernest M. Bryant of Carthage N.C. 2 sisters, Sally L. Mueller (Michael) of Jacksonville FL. and Vivian E. Sheppard (Calvin) of Alderson, W.V. 3 small grandchildren, Katy, Teddy and Little Junior, all of Lewisburg, numerous nieces and nephews. He was very much loved and will be missed dearly by us all.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 19, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Lantz Funeral Home in Alderson with Pastor Randy Burdette officiating. Burial will follow at the Adkins Cemetery on Flat Mountain, Alderson W.V.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

The family would once again like to express their gratitude and thank all of the people who gave of their time to search for Elmer when he went missing. All first responders, anyone who brought food and water to feed everyone. And especially the Coon Dog Mercy who was able to get his scent and located Elmer.
