McVey,
57,
of
Alderson,
West
Virginia
unexpectedly
joined
her
Heavenly
Father
and
her
beloved
parents
on
the
15th
of
December
2023,
with
her
son
Caden
by
her
side
at
home
after
a
short
illness.
She
was
born
on
October
12,
1966,
in
Bluefield,
West
Virginia,
the
daughter
of
the
late
Howard
Rodgers
McVey,
Jr
and
Lois Jean Ford.
Lois
always
put
her
family
first,
especially,
her
son
Caden.
Lois
always
looked
out
for
her
family
and
friends.
She
would
put
her
needs
aside
to
help
someone
else
and
has many times. Her faith in the Lord was obvious in her daily life.
Lois
loved
her
town.
She
took
pride
in
being
one
of
the
founding
members
of
the
board
of
directors
and
treasurer
of
the
Alderson
Community
Center
for
the
Arts
and
Humanities.
Lois
was
so
pleased
that
the
building
was
being
transitioned
into
the
new
Alderson
Elementary
School
and
gaining
new
life.
She
was
a
member
of
so
many
boards
and
organizations
to
help
any way she could.
Lois
was
a
graduate
of
Greenbrier
East
High
School,
attended
Concord
University,
and
worked
many
years
for
the
Town
of
Alderson.
Lois
was
also
the
second-generation
owner
of
McVey’s
Flowers.
A
small
business that her mother Jean started years ago.
In
addition
to
her
parents,
she
was
preceded
in
death
by
her
stepdaughter
Mary
Beth
Thompson.
Those
left
to
cherish
the
times
and
memories
with
Lois
are
her
son
Caden
Howard
Rodgers
McVey
of
Alderson,
step-daughter
Katie
Windon
(Jason)
of
Lewisburg,
brother
H.R.
McVey,
III
(Detra)
of
Shelbyville,
Tennessee,
Kathy
Arbaugh
(Jack)
of
Alderson,
grandsons;
Noah
and
Parker
Windon,
of
Ronceverte,
and
granddaughter
Aleeah
Windon
of
Ronceverte,
nieces;
Heather
Arbaugh
of
Alderson,
Eva
McVey
of
Nashville,
Tennessee,
nephews;
Colton
Arbaugh
of
Alderson,
Cody
McVey
(Leah)
of
Acworth,
Georgia,
great
nieces;
Eliana
McVey
of
Acworth,
Georgia,
great
nephews;
William
McVey
of
Acworth,
Georgia,
and
River
Arbaugh

Alderson,
Great
Aunt
Betty
McVey
Shields
of
Shelbyville,
Tennessee,
Aunt
Donna
and
Uncle
Bill
Waller,
Her
God
Daughter
Kaylin
Kinnson
and
Special
Friends
Jessie
and
Angel
Willis,
River,
Spencer,
and
Aiden,
and
a
host
of
special
cousins
and
her
two
dogs;
Sadie
and
Iggy
and
cats;
Fuzzy
and
Mabel.
The
family
will
receive
friends
on
Tuesday,
December
19,
2023,
from
6:00pm
to
8:00pm
at
the
Fort
Spring
Missionary
Baptist
Church.
Funeral
Service
will
follow
on
Wednesday
December
20,
2023,
at
11:00am
with Pastor Joey Morgan officiating at the church.
Her
grandmother
Gretis
McVey
was
the
inspiration
for
the
Christmas
lights
on
the
Memorial
Bridge.
As
such, fitting for her last ride, Lois will ride across the bridge under the lights.
Burial will follow at the Alderson Cemetery.
Members of the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department will serve as pallbearers.
