of
Columbus,
OH,
passed
away
unexpectedly
at
her
residence
on
Monday,
December
18,
2023.
Vera
was
a
member
of
the
Trinity
Methodist Church in Alderson, West Virginia, since her birth.
Vera
was
born
November
11,
1941
in
Alderson,
West
Virigina,
the
daughter
of
the
late
James
Ralph
&
Frances
Evelyn
(Pittenger)
Thompson.
She
graduated
from
Alderson
High
School,
Class
of
1959,
and
would
go
on
to
receive
her
Associate
Degree from Marshall University.
Vera
worked
for
the
Federal
Bureau
of
Investigation,
the
Department
of
Commerce
and
finally
retired
with
Social
Security
Administration
as
their
Assistant
Area
District
Manager,
where
she
was
highly
respected
by
her
employees
and
superiors and received several commendations and awards.
She
was
preceded
in
death
by
her
parents,
siblings
James
Paul,
Jack
Duane,
Frances
Avalea
and
Edward, and step-daughter Caren Jones (Breece), and brother-in-law Admiral James Austin Yeager.
Left
to
cherish
her
memory
are
her
sister
Betty
“Tootle”
Yeager;
brother
Bud
Thompson;
lifelong
significant
companion
Paul
Breece;
step-daughter
Connie
(Dave)
Melnek;
step-son
in
law
Tom
Jones,
nieces
and
nephews
Steven
Rogers,
Jeff
Rogers,
Debbie
Rogers,
Dr.
Paul
Thompson,
Anthony
Thompson,
Kathy
Withrow and Kimberly Masengill.
Vera
was
a
vivacious,
energetic,
and
generous
individual
who
loved
life
and
had
a
passion
for
animals
and
their
wellbeing.
She
enjoyed
riding
bikes,
playing
tennis,
and
playing
softball
for
the
FBI
in
Washington,
D.C.
She
was
a
remarkable
seamstress
and
a
wonderful
cook.
In
addition,
she
and
her
neighbor
owned
and
operated
an
upholstery
business
for
several
years.
Last,
but
certainly
not
least,
was
her
dedication
to
the Mountaineers and Buckeye sports teams.
Memorial
Services
for
Vera
will
be
held
at
a
later
date
in
Alderson,
West
Virginia.
She
will
surely
be
missed
by her friends and relatives.
