77,
died
Friday,
Aug.
24,
at
her
home,
following
a
long
illness.
Born
Dec.
19,
1912,
at
Blue
Sulphur
Springs,
she
was
the
daughter
of
the
late
Edgar
L.
and
Daisy
Rader
Buster.
Mrs.
Blake
was
a
member
of
the
Alderson
Presbyterian
Church,
was
a
graduate
of
Alderson
High
School,
Class of 1931, and the Commercial Business School in Charlottesville, Va.
She
was
a
charter
incorporator
of
radio
station
WRON
in
Ronceverte,
and
retired
in
1977
as
associate
publisher
and
business
manager
of
the
Kanawha
Valley
Leader
in
Nitro.
Her
colorful
career
included
being
one
of
the
original
“Rosie
the
Riveters”
in
World
War
II
and
in
1942
she
bucketed
rivets
building
the
B24
Bombers
at
the
Glenn
L.
Martin
Plant
in
Baltimore,
Md.
After
the
war
she
was
secretary
at
the
Lever
Brothers before returning to West Virginia.
In
1973
she
was
appointed
a
U.S.
deputy
marshal
to
ride
shotgun
with
the
marshals
to
transport
women
federal
prisoners
to
the
Federal
Reformatory
in
Alderson.
Survivors
include
her
husband,
William
E.
Blake,
former
adjutant
general
of
West
Virginia;
a
brother,
Edgar
L.
Buster
Sr.
of
South
Charleston;
a
sister,
Mrs.
Charles
H.
Crawford
of
Alderson,
and
several
nieces
and
nephews.
Graveside
services
were
Sunday
at
4
p.m.
at
the
Alderson
Cemetery
at
Alderson
with
the
Rev.
David
C.
Harris
officiating.
The
Lobban
Funeral
Home in Alderson was in charge of the arrangements.
