The Mountains |
I LOVE THE MOUNTAINS, WHEN WE ARE HEADING SOUTH IT IS FLAT UNTIL COLUMBUS OHIO. ONCE YOU GO TO THE OTHER SIDE OF COLUMBUS YOU WILL HIT THE APPALACHIAN FOOTHILLS, OR SMALL MOUNTAINS. AS YOU DRIVE FURTHER AND CROSS THE OHIO RIVER AT PARKERSBURG, WOLA! THE MOUNTAINS CHANGE. THEY ARE HIGHER, MORE RUGGED, AND MORE SPARSE. YOU MOVE DOWN 77 AND REACH CHARLESTON. AS YOU GO SOUTH AND EAST ONCE AGAIN THE MOUNTAINS GET HIGHER AND THE LAND CHANGES. DEEP HARD ROUGH MOUNTAIN BEAUTY IS PRESENT. DRIVING ON YOU REACH THE TOLL BOOTH AT BECKLEY, THEN ANOTHER CHANGE; HIGHER, BIGGER, AND STRONGER MOUNTAINS. AS YOU DRIVE EAST AND SOUTH YOUR BREATH COMES HARD IT IS PHENOMENAL. THEN TO ME, MAGIC, SAM BLACK'S CHURCH. YOU ARE ENTERING THE GREENBRIER AND THE BEAUTY IS AWE INSPIRING THE MOUNTAINS ARE TOUGH BUT WONDERFUL. YOU WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE BEFORE WERE OVERWHELMED BY THE SHEER, RAW, UNBELIEVABLE, MAJESTIC BEAUTY. I CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE HERE FROM ANYWHERE. ONCE YOU LEAVE 64 AND GO DOWN 12 TOWARD ALDERSON IT REALLY IS ALMOST HEAVEN. |
