JOB, THE IMPLICATIONS

Rick Hughes - August 2, 2012

We have all been listening to many different ideas and theories about workers right, job rights, and employment privileges. Now I have worked all my life in all kinds of jobs, and I have been an employer of a small and then a 20 million a year business with 65 employees where their capacity and honesty could make or break the business. Here is my take on it, a job is one great responsibility and privilege. It comes with lots and lots of obligations and the greatest obligation as a worker is to make a profit for your employer. Make a profit and you will always have a paying job, when your job does not make money eventually your job will end.

Let us take the furthers most removed job I can think of and see if my point can be made. A college professor, generally believes themselves removed from profit and a seeker of truth not tainted by the wicked profit motive. Why is there a demand for a professors knowledge? As a general postulate, it is to train or educate someone else to become educated so they may aspire to a better job and a higher status, a more rewarding life, which translated means a higher paying job.

Now as soon as the professors knowledge does not produce the desired results, the professors market value will decline. If they fail to produce better opportunities for their students, eventually this will lead to enrollment decline and the money for funding ends and their jobs terminate. All jobs which do not help to produce profits are subsidies, leading toward eventual poverty, not TV poverty or false poverty, poverty where you are homeless, carless, and hopeless.

Many years ago when I first became an employer I was liberal and naive. The first time I fired someone I was week kneed and scared. Nevertheless, I fired the incompetent and it improved the rest of the workers efforts and our bottom line. Their jobs were more secure because I had purged the slacker. As I ran multiple businesses I came to realize how vapid and weak our educational system was about our economy and the source of our fabulous success and prosperity. By demanding high performance and profits a person is doing more for job security, opportunity, and prosperity than any politician can ever do!

Do you want to keep your job and do you like continuous cash flow? Make your employer a profit. Do you want a job? Tell your prospective employer you will make them a profit and mean it.  Your future will be bright, and cash flow will always be yours.
