Snowflake Job
Richard Hughes

IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME OF MY YOUTH IN ALDERSON, I GOT A JOB AT SNOWLAKE. I GOT A RIDE WITH RUBE AYERS, AS I HAD NO CAR . WE MET 6 EVERY MORNING BY THE BRIDGE AND DROVE TO SNOWFLAKE. WHEN WE GOT TO THE JOB WE WOULD ALL MEET, ABOUT 25 OF US AT OUR LITTLE CABIN, THERE WAS AN OLD POT BELLIED STOVE WHERE MANY OF US SET AROUND AND CHEWED TOBACCO AND TALKED ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED THE NIGHT BEFORE .SOME REGALED US WITH FIGHTS IN AND AROUND ALDERSON OR SNOWFLAKE. WE ALSO TALKED ABOUT ALLEGED WICKED WOMEN WHO WEE ACTIVE IN THE AREA ,MOSTLY WE TALKED ABOUT STREET FIGHTING , SOLON BEATINGS AND ANY OTHER NEFARIOUS ACTIVATES IN OUR WORLD.  AT ABOUT 6.30 MR. RUBY WHO WAS OUR LEADER WOULD JOKE WITH US, TELL US ABOUT WHERE WE WOULD GO FOR THE DAY. I ALWAYS WENT UNDER THE TIPPLE, PEOPLE WOULD CALL ME AN EDUCATED MAN,  THEY KNEW I WAS GOING TO COLLEGE, THEY ASKED ME TO REPORT BACK ABOUT COLLEGE WOMEN, I CHEWED TOBACCO AND KIDDED TO THESE HARD WORKING PATRIOTIC TOUGH MEN,  SOMETIMES ONE WOULD ASK ME WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT BETWEEN US , I ALWAYS RESPONDED , YOU WOULD BIG MAN.  ANYWAY ,THESE SONS OF GREENBRIER WORKED LONG HARD DANGEROUSLY EVERYDAY FOREVER.  THESE WERE WONDERFUL AMERICANS, THEY HAD GUTS, THEY WERE WEALTH CREATORS NOT ENTITLEMENT  DRONES, THEY WERE TRUE HEROES I WILL NEVER SEE THEM AGAIN , IT IS MY LOSS.
