Alderson Academy building and female students on parade in 1902. ABA started as Alderson Academy in 1901 and added "Baptist" in 1911. It ultimately became Alderson Baptist Academy and Junior College and in 1933 merged with Broaddus College at Philippi, W. Va. from which location it still operated as Alderson Broaddus College. - Photo by J. W. McClung
Lumbering was a big industry around Alderson and this man was quick to have his picture made with this prize log on Railroad Ave. about 1910. Alderson's ubiquitous photographer, J. W. McClung, was again ready with his giant 8x10 camera and a good stock of glass plates.

The Alderson Public School building pictured here was built in 1909 after the Alderson Independent School District was established that year. 1909 was also the first year of operation of a public high school in Alderson. This building housed the upper grades until the new Jr-Sr High School Building was constructed in 1928, after which this building housed all the lower grades. Until its demolition in the late 1900's, it remained virtually unchanged except for the absence of the bell tower. Photo by J. W. McClung.
