I read Johnny's article re Hangers Store and it
brought back many memories of that corner. I am wondering how many
readers can remember the stores on each side of Hangers, and if so what
stores or businesses were in the building next door heading east on
Riverview Ave. Finally there were three "hang out" businesses very close
to Mr. Hanger's shop. Can you name them. Also finally, finally you may
like to know that Mr. Hanger supplied a clock for the C&O ticket office
for years (at least since about 1945), and that clock is still in the
office. He would come by about once a year and take the clock for
maintenance and repair. The clock is just another very important piece
of Alderson's long and memorable history.
If you know the answer to the above questions then a final one. Where
did the teen age boys hang out and sit (out doors) in the evenings (Many
insurrections were hatched out on that locations) that kept Sam Meads
busy.
I hope that over the 4th that visitors will take the time to visit the
depot and see the clock as well as many other collectables from long
ago.
