FEDERAL PRISON CAMP SPONSORS CHILDREN AT CHRISTMAS
On
Wednesday,
December
6,
2017,
the
Federal
Prison
Camp
(FPC)
in
Alderson,
West
Virginia,
hosted
its
annual
Community
Children’s
Christmas
party.
This
is
only
one
example
of
the
excellent
community
support
provided
by
the
FPC.
Almost
any
local
emergency
will
find
staff
and
inmates
from
the
FPC
working
beside
community
volunteers
to
take
corrective
action.
Warden
Wilson
and
the
staff
are
a
terrific
resource
for the Alderson community.
This
party
was
held
at
the
Alderson
Community
Center
from
10:00
a.m.-12:00
noon
for
children
from
the
surrounding
area.
Throughout
the
year,
inmates
participating
in
the
Yarn
Project
donate
knitted
and
crocheted
items
such
as
scarves,
mittens,
hats,
etc.,
as
gifts
for
the
children.
Additionally,
institution
employees
voluntarily
sponsor
an
“Angel”
and
purchase
gifts
for
each
child
who
attends.
A
tree
was
placed
in
the
hallway
of
the
Administration
Building
of
the
FPC
with
the
children’s
names
which
staff
“adopted”
and then purchased gifts.
Four
students
(ages
12
and
under)
from
eight
local
schools
were
invited
to
attend
including
Alderson
Elementary,
Ronceverte
Elementary,
Hinton
Area,
Talcott
Elementary,
Jumping
Branch
Elementary,
White
Sulphur
Springs
Elementary,
Smoot
Elementary,
and
Mountain
View
Elementary.
The
schools
provided
transportation
to
and
from
the
Alderson
Community
Center.
Lunch
was
provided
by
FPC
Alderson
employees.
The
event
was
coordinated
by
Tina
Wickline,
Warden’s
Secretary,
and
co-coordinated
by
Phyllis
Sea,
Drug
Treatment
Specialist.
Justin
Hedrick,
Warehouse
Worker
Foreman,
was
Santa
Claus
and
Natalie
Wright,
Medical
Officer,
was
Mrs.
Claus
for
the
event.
Santa’s
helper
was
the
daughter
of
Amy
Crawford,
Human
Resource
Specialist.
Bobby
and
Judy
Hoover,
managers
of
the
Community
Center,
also
helped
with
the
event.
Mayor
Travis
Copenhaver
said,
“This
party
for
children
from
our
area
is
much
appreciated
by
the
children,
their parents, and their teachers. We applaud the generosity of the FPC staff and inmates.”
