Hey Fellow Aldersonians!
Stacy Eskins - September 16, 2019
I
just
got
back
from
recycling...and
I
saw
some
things
that
were
not
right.
Please
read
below...and
see
the
photos
I
took
this
evening...and
yes,
the
items
shown
were
at
the
top
of
the
bin
so
I
resorted
or
trashed
what is pictured.
I
believe
education
&
communication
are
key
when
it
comes
to
having
a
program
run
smoothly.
And,
I
know
there
are
no
signs
or
pamphlets
explaining
the
details
of
recycling
at
this
location
...So
that’s
why
I
wanted to let you know some right ways to recycle ♻️ (and how to avoid the wrong ways):
1) Please look for the number on the plastic and place in the appropriate bin only!
***
(Only
plastics
with
a
1
or
2
are
accepted...all
other
numbers
should
be
put
in
your
trash
at
home.
If
you
can’t find a number, trash it at home)
***
(Hint:
most
solid
food
containers
-
i.e.
cottage
cheese,
yogurt,
flimsy
cinnamon
roll
containers,
etc.
are
not recyclable - but always look for the numbers to be sure)
2) All items should be Clean and Dry before bringing them to recycle
3) All LIDS should be removed and put in trash at your home
4)
Plastic
six-pack
can
holders
are
not
recyclable.
Please
cut
up
all
the
rings
and
put
in
your
trash
at
home
(cutting
them
up
helps
save
wildlife...I’ve
seen
too
many
photos
of
waterfowl
with
plastic
rings
around
their
beaks unable to eat)
5) Cardboard: only dry cardboard...
***
Take
out
pizza
boxes
that
have
grease
soaked
in
the
cardboard
are
not
recyclable.
Please
trash
at
home. (If the grease gets mixed in with good cardboard, it can’t be recycled)
***
No
wax
coated
cardboard
(I.e.
milk
or
juice
cartons)
These
cannot
be
recycled.
Please
trash
at
your
home
6) Paint Cans are not recyclable here.
*** If the paint is dried, then put out in your trash
***
If
you
have
leftover
latex
paints
that
can't
be
recycled,
reused
or
stored,
pour
the
paints
into
a
box
with
shredded paper or kitty litter, allow it to solidify away from kids or pets, then discard in the trash
7)
If
the
bins
are
full
take
it
to
Ronceverte
Recycling.
Do
NOT
leave
trash
bags
of
your
recycling
because
they were full. This makes the area look trashy.
8–
If
you
don’t
sort
properly,
then
it
takes
the
volunteers
overseeing
this
program
even
more
time
to
sort
through
this
mess.
They
literally
have
to
dumpster
dive
in
and
make
sure
the
correct
items
are
in
the
correct
bin,
otherwise
the
whole
bin
will
just
end
up
in
the
landfill.
(That’s
why
sorting
and
following
guidelines are soooo important!)
These
are
just
a
few
helpful
things
I
want
people
to
know,
so
the
Alderson
recycling
can
continue
and
not
be extra work for the people who have to sort through this mess.
Please share so other Alderson friends are made aware... Town of Alderson, West Virginia
