ALDERSON — Virginia Jane Wood
McLaughlin, age 92, of Alderson, passed away on Monday, Dec. 10,
2007, at her home in Alderson, following a short illness.
Born Sept. 16, 1915, in Minneapolis, Minn., she was the daughter of
the late John Malcomb Wood and Vivian Jarrett Wood.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Alexander Arbuckle McLaughlin Sr., and her brother, Jarrett
Wood.
Mrs. McLaughlin served more than 40 years with the U.S. Federal
Bureau of Prisons where she was able to progress from being a
secretary to be warden of the Al-derson facility. She was a member
of the Saint James Episcopal Church in Lewisburg.
After her retirement, she was active in various groups including the
West Virginia Humanities Council, the Greenbrier Historical Society,
the North House, the Town of Alderson, the Alderson Renaissance, the
Alderson Hospitality House, the Asbury Ruritans and the Region IV
Planning and Development Council.
Survivors include her son, Alexander Arbuckle McLaughlin Jr., and
her daughter-in-law, Mary Jo McLaughlin of Charleston; her
granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth McLaughlin of Jamestown, N.Y.; and
several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at 11 a.m.
at the Clifton Presbyterian Church, Maxwelton, with the Rev. Sam
Groves officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday,
Dec. 12, 2007, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home,
Alderson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the A.A.
McLaughlin Memorial Scholarship Fund to be forwarded to the Greater
