Alderson
Main Street has announced that the Flower Festival will return
to Alderson on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This year it will be expanded to include a flea market,
antiques, art, garden art, food, and fun for all ages.
Under the
able leadership of Judy Lewallen, the Flower Festival will give
those who attend the opportunity to buy their spring plants from
a variety of vendors and have fun at the same time. Timed for
just after Mother’s Day when the plants can safely go right into
the ground, it will be one stop shopping for all your garden
needs.
Among the
vendors will be the Monroe County Garden Club which will have a
variety of “home” grown plants and seedlings for sale. Their
wares are acclimatized to the local area and the members can
tell you how to get them to grow. Pam West of West’s Farm also
plans to set up shop.
The
flower theme will be carried out by vendors such as Jill
Highlander selling framed photographs and other art with flower
or natural subjects featured.
Alderson
stores will be open including the famous “Alderson’s”, Wolf
Creek Antiques, A Country Christmas, Alderson Country
Mercantile, MeadowSweet at the Depot, and the Wolf Creek
Gallery.
Alderson
Main Street will be selling hot dogs with all the fixins and
there will be bake sale items. If that is not enough, visitors
can enjoy a full meal at the Big Wheel Restaurant or the Nothin’
Fancy Café.
Antique
dealers and people who want to get rid of their excess items
from spring cleaning are especially welcome.
Mayor
Luther Lewallen said, “I am really looking forward to this
spring event. It will be a great opportunity to see your
neighbors and start your gardens.”
If you
are interested in being a vendor of plants, art, antiques, flea
market items, or food, call Judy Lewallen at 445-2181 or City
Hall at 445-2916. Otherwise, come on down to Alderson on May 17
and have a terrific day of fun. |
