Greenbrier River Interpretative/Visitors Center - Page Two
(Click on Photos for larger view.)
Work has started on the landscaping portion of the GRIC. The contractor
hopes to be done by July 4th!When this is completed, refurbishing the inside
will be the last major phase. Then we will just need to find the historical
signs and install the information kiosk. And, of course, a thousand other little
things!
Here is more progress on the Greenbrier River Interpretative Center. The
concrete work is done and the first coat of asphalt is down. The rest of the
light fixture needs to be mounted and the second coat of asphalt needs to be
applied. The asphalt is slow to set up because of all the water in the ground
so the second coat will not be put on till after the 4th. We
will have to hope the area off so the current coat will not
be damaged.
We are closing out with the contractor for the exterior
work. Note the restored light fixture, handicapped parking,
and visual cues for sight impaired.
We are very pleased with this work and are excited about moving forward with the interior. In August, we received
$120,000 from a Transportation Grant through the Governor's Office for the final phases of the project. After we
get through the extensive process of actually getting access to the money, it will probably be the first of the year.
We still need matching funds for part of this grant so if any one can help out, please send your donation to
Alderson Main Street, P.O. Box 117, Alderson, WV 24910.

building with the coffee shop, gift
shop, and the outside.
