The 1950’s Fabulous Foursome!This is a fan site of the original Diamonds of the 1950s. All hailing from Canada, they made their way to the U. S., and with their songs and energy, endeared themselves to their fans forever.
Here’s a real relic, the program from the historic first actual gig the group did at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in 1953. We had appeared at the Lebanese Club earlier, just after we met Bill. I don’t think we performed as a trio before that. That’s the club we had been going to when Ted mentioned he had a bass friend and where he came to meet us. We went outside to my ’47 Chev and sang ‘Down by the Riverside’ and the sound blew our minds. A week or two later we sang there as a foursome. I don’t remember there being an actual stage but there was an area at the front where the small group of musicians were and the kids all stood around and listened. We must have sung there 3 or 4 times, but the Church affair was a real show. __Phil Levitt
