Pictured - Dick
Altare with Ernest Lee Skaggs, Sr.

Book because that are some who are not on Face Book. - Barry

This photo was taken 14 days before the day I was born. Dick
was the husband of Ruth Fields, and my mother married Howard
Fields. Although I wasn't a Fields, I guess I'll always be
connected to the Fields family. Dick use to pitch ball with
me when the family would get together on the Fields' farm on
Muddy Creek mountain.
The funniest story
about Dick, being an avid baseball fan and playing baseball
with the Alderson team, he and Ruth had issues about Dick
playing so much baseball. It did end (temporally) with Dick
throwing his glove over the hill behind the Fields' farm
house. Later, an opportunity for Dick to play again led to
convincing Ruth to let him play. It was funny to see Dick
search through the growth, over the hill, looking for his
glove.
As for Ernest Lee, he
was a pretty good guitar player. Since I was beginning play
guitar, I invited him to the house to play some with Rodney
Eggleston and me during one of our playing sessions. Ernie
had a nice Gibson jazz guitar and I was very impressed with
his playing. It was my loss that we only got together that
one time. - Barry Worrell |
