Donald Paul "Cricket" Duff - Obituary August 14, 1934 - October 24, 2024
Donald Paul “Cricket” Duff, 90 of Alderson, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024, in the Peyton Hospice House, Lewisburg. He was born August 14, 1934, to the late Dennis and Della Duff on Muddy Creek Mountain. Cricket was the last surviving member of the Duff siblings. Cricket worked a host of jobs throughout his life. He retired from Greenbrier Manor as the maintenance supervisor after 29 years of service. Cricket touched many people’s lives while coaching every form of youth sports in the area. He was also instrumental in keeping midget football alive in Alderson for many years. His passion was refereeing games and being the umpire. There are many Cricket Duff stories to cherish and remember. He got great enjoyment telling many stories of his younger days and he loved to sing. Cricket was a member of the River of Life Church of God. There was not a more “True and Devout Aldersonian!” Alderson has lost another great dad, friend, neighbor, and legend. Cricket was also a veteran serving during the Korean War as a Private in the United States Army. In addition to his parents, Cricket was preceded in death by Barbara his wife of 62 years, son Shawn Hunter Duff, and daughter Deborah DeLaine Duff. Those left to cherish their memories of Cricket are his sons David Paul Duff (Ryne) of Montpelier, VT, Eric Scott Duff (Heather) of Alderson, daughters Leigha Susette Thomas (Kevin) of Kenna, and Elizabeth Colleen Workman (Mark) of Quinwood, eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In keeping with his wishes, Cricket will be cremated, and no services will be held. Those wishing to memorialize Cricket are encouraged to do so by donating to the Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, West Virginia 24901. Alderson Funeral Services and Smathers Funeral Chapel is honored to have been entrusted with the care of Cricket and the Duff family during their great time of need. We are all eternally “ALDERSON PROUD!” of Cricket. May his stories and memories live forever in our hearts and minds.
