died
Friday,
September
20,
2024,
at
Lewis
Gale
Medical
Center,
Salem,
VA,
where
she
was
recuperating
from minor surgery.
Born
on
Sunday,
May
9,
1937,
at
home,
in
the
Fleishman
House
in
Palestine,
Alderson,
WV,
she
was
the
daughter
of
the
late
Ethel
Morgan
Wenger
and
Lynn
Clark Wenger.
Lena
graduated
in
1954
from
Alderson
High
School,
where
she
was
always
an
honor
student,
at
the
top
of
her
class.
In
high
school
Lena
was
chosen
to
be
a
member
of
the
Nine
Girls’
Club,
a
select
group
of
students
who
served
the
school
at
football
games,
school
parades,
and
in
other
service
areas.
She
was
also
hand-picked
by
the
principal
to
work
in
the
office
part
of
the
school
day
as
his personal secretary.
After
graduation
Lena
soon
began
working
as
a
telephone
operator
for
the
Chesapeake
and
Potomac
Telephone
Company
in
Hinton,
WV.
She
advanced
quickly
in
her
career
with
the
company
and
later
retired
while working at the Beckley, WV site.
During
her
lifetime
she
was
known
for
her
kindness,
generosity,
and
sacrificial
love
for
her
family.
She
was
characterized
by
honesty,
hard
work,
help
to
others,
and
honor
to
God
and
her
Christian
faith.
Her
greatest
concern in her entire life was her family. For Lena, it was all about her family!
Lena
was
a
part
of
many
church
fellowships
during
her
lifetime,
and
primarily
attended
the
Alderson
Church
of the Nazarene on Muddy Creek Mountain.
Lena
was
also
preceded
in
death
by
brother,
Alvin
Charlton
Wenger,
and
by
two
sisters:
Joyce
Elizabeth
Sheppard and Onva Lee Pierce.
She
is
survived
by
her
sister
Rymal
Kenton
of
Milford,
DE
and
her
brother
Bobby
Wenger
of
Hawkins,
TX.
She
is
also
survived
by
many
loving
nieces,
nephews,
cousins,
and
a
host
of
devoted
friends,
which
included care givers Tammy Adkins and Debbie Bryant.
Graveside
services
will
be
held
1:00
p.m.
at
the
Alderson
Cemetery
Fletcher
Addition
with
Pastor
Ed
Midcap officiating. Burial will follow.
